Welcome to the Dogwood Institute School of Fine Woodworking, a school located in Alpharetta, Georgia (North Atlanta) on a beautiful 13 acre horse farm. We now have one new spacious barn completed containing over 2,800 square feet of a classroom, a turning studio, and store with hand tools and books for purchase. The second barn is presently under renovation with over 4,000 square feet of more classrooms, bench room and equipment room. It will also contain an extensive library. The school has all the necessary power tools as well as hand tools for building fine furniture. Under the direction of Ronald G. Peyton woodworker of 30 years, the school is now in its third year of operation and continues to expand offerings and courses. Students come from all over the country and are from all walks of life including doctors, lawyers, computer experts, cabinet makers, pilots, stock brokers, homemakers and many other professions. Both men and women attend and ages vary. No one under the age of 18 is accepted due to insurance requirements.

"This school is a result of my touring and consulting with the owners of successful woodworking schools throughout the United States. I have visited many schools from Maine to Oregon and feel we have put together an excellent school that reflects the positive attributes of those schools. We have designed our courses unlike any other school in the country as we stress teaching the “process” of fine woodworking. We also want to offer courses in fine woodworking in order to preserve the art and craftsmanship for building furniture by hand."

Mission Statement:
The mission of the School of Fine Woodworking is to provide quality instructional courses to individuals who are interested in furthering their knowledge of woodworking at all levels of interest and skill.

About the Woodworking School:
It is the intent of the school to offer classes for students with little to no experience in woodworking to those who have moderate and advanced skills. The difference in our school as compared to others is that we stress teaching "the process" in building fine furniture as opposed to "the project" which takes a little longer. We have project courses as well, we just want the novice to spend a little time learning "why" they do what they do and not just come to build a project. The Foundations Courses, which are better explained in the section under "CLASSES", are a series of five two-day courses with homework in between allowing the student time to practice and learn more about the process, or our new two-five day courses.Participants will be taught detailed foundation techniques necessary in preparing them for building fine furniture. Once these techniques have been mastered, the participant will be fully prepared to build quality woodworking projects with ease and confidence. Our turning classes also prepares the participants with the skills necessary in making bowls, spindle projects and other related turning projects.

Gift certificates are available for birthdays, anniversaries, Holidays or for any occasion.
